It can be a courageous step to enter therapy. Doing so requires self-reflection and a desire for change of some kind. I wish to gain the trust of those entering a therapeutic partnership, empowering them to approach with the confidence that they will be received with acceptance. I hope to help increase their insight and awareness of their needs, their inherent strengths, and their capacity for change. I strive to help those with whom I work incorporate new learning and strategies to attain what they seek.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over thirty years of experience in my field. I work with individuals and couples. I consider it an honor to assist clients in navigating their challenges, whether individually or in the context of partner, parent, professional. As Wildflower emphasizes, “you are the expert in your life.” You come to therapy with your unique worries, personality, childhood experience, education, perspective, beliefs, interpersonal conflicts and hopes for the future. I am dedicated to helping clients seeking guidance and resolution – whatever that may be for them.
I am committed to an integrative approach to therapy that utilizes solution-focused strategies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relationship Centered Care, Family Systems theory, Psychodynamic therapy, and the Gottman Method of conflict resolution for couples.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa in 1989. I began college expecting to become a nurse or pediatrician, as I have an interest in medicine, health, neurobiology and neuroplasticity. I have come to appreciate how happiness and well-being emanate from strength and stability in these foundations. Of course, our core needs must also be met. Given my appreciation for the study of human behavior, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in sociology with an emphasis in counseling. I then completed a Master’s degree in Social Work at Arizona State University in 1995. My professional work has primarily been in maternal child hospital social work (Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Fetal Health), support group facilitator, and professional counseling.
I have a combination of lived and professional experience in perinatal mental health, grief and loss, life transitions, navigating the dissolution of marriage, and caring for loved ones with neurological complications and addictions. I have advanced training in perinatal mental health and pregnancy and infant loss. I am passionate about helping mothers and their partners navigate new parenthood and beyond. I am dedicated to advancing mental health access and care to support the structure of parent, child and couple relationships.
