Michelle Montero, PsyD

licensed clinical psychologist


Dr. Michelle Montero is a licensed clinical psychologist and sport and performance psychology consultant in downtown Chicago.  She earned her doctoral degree from Roosevelt University in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Montero completed her APA approved doctoral internship at the University of Delaware's Center for Counseling and Student Development and her Post-doctoral residency at Arizona State University's Counseling Services.

In her work as a trained clinical psychologist, Dr. Montero has extensive experience treating clients from diverse backgrounds and an array of presenting concerns.  Dr. Montero has expertise in treating mood and anxiety disorders, women’s wellness, identity concerns, emerging adulthood, sexuality, grief and loss, trauma, and relationships issues.  Additionally, Dr. Montero specializes in sport and performance psychology and the unique experiences and mental health concerns of athletes, performers, and other individuals in high pressure careers.  Dr. Montero continues to pursue training and professional development opportunities to expand her work with this unique population. 

Prior to Wildflower, Dr. Montero was a staff psychologist and the Assistant Director for Outreach Programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago Counseling Center.  In this role, Dr. Montero provided individual, group psychotherapy, and created, managed, and implemented Outreach Programs to the UIC community. She was an integral part of the extern and APA approved internship training programs.  Dr. Montero conducted an outreach program seminar and provided supervision and consultation to trainees.  Dr. Montero has served as a therapist at several university counseling centers and inpatient and residential treatment facilities treating those with severe mental health concerns.  Additionally, Dr. Montero has provided consultation and personal development services to large organizations, athletic departments, and individuals in the medical and professional fields.

Dr. Montero’s commitment as a therapist is to celebrate and encourage personal growth and independent thought. Her approach to therapy is integrative, holistic, and relational.  She works collaboratively with clients to identify personal strengths and understand how diversity/culture, relationship patterns and the environment impact emotions and overall functioning.  Dr. Montero joins with her clients to bring self-awareness, self-discovery, and a deeper personal understanding of oneself to promote empowerment, personal acceptance, change, healing, and personal success.
